2019 Cuvee B (54% Cab Sauv 38% Merlot 8% Malbec)- 92pts
The Cuvee B is a blend of 62% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Malbec. It soothed the senses with a sweetly scented mix of lavender, crushed violet candies and blueberry preserves. This washes across the palate with ease, traversing both savory and sweet through a mix of wild berry fruits and salty mineral tones. It leaves echoes of blackberry and sour citrus to linger incredibly long through the lightly structured finale. Give the Cuvee B another year cellaring, and then enjoy over the coming five to ten years. Vinous
2019 ALLEROMB – CUVEE B
Blend: 62% Merlot 26% Cabernet Sauvignon 12% Malbec
Aging: 32 months in 25% new French oak 500L’s.
AVA: Columbia Valley
Alcohol: 14.9%
Vintage:
The 2019 vintage started out cool with heavy snowpack from February and March that kept ground temps cool and the soils saturated with moisture. Budbreak was slightly later than normal and moisture in the soils made nutrients readily available for the spring and early summer. Big canopy growth and a large fruit set led to a substantial harvest and although there was an early freeze event, much of our production had already been harvested or was at elevations that weren’t affected.
Wine:
The 2019 Cuvée B is back to being Merlot dominant, with 26% Cabernet and the balance being Malbec. Fermented mostly in stainless steel for this vintage with only the Malbec being fermented in concrete. Aged in 500L French oak barrels to maintain fruit purity and minimal oak impact.
Winemaker notes:
Notes of muddled raspberry, blackberry, black currants and plum skin. A hint of dried herbs and black tea with sweet tobacco wafting in the background. The palate is juicy, with medium weight, fine tannins and a vibrant mixture of red and black fruits. Complex and still deliciously drinkable.
