2020 La Gran Flor Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc)
2020 La Gran Flor Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc)
Meant as a compliment to our flagship La Gran Flor, the LGF-B is meant to be exotically aromatic, richly textured and built to last for 6-8 years. Planted high on the Royal Slope at just under 1,700ft, this vineyard is farmed one cluster per shoot on a planting of just over 1,800 plants per acre. Fermented and aged in 33% new French oak 300L’s, we extended the aging to maximize the richness of the 2018 vintage. More like a Bordeaux blanc than the classic new world Sauvignon Blanc this wine is rich and age worthy and should be treated like a wine that needs time and air to develop.
2020 ALLEROMB – LA GRAN FLOR BLANC
Blend: Sauvignon Blanc
Aging: 19 months in 100% new French oak 265L LUMEN barrels.
AVA: Columbia Valley
Alcohol: 14.4%
Vintage:
In 2020 we saw normal budbreak and moderate early season growing conditions and overall was a warm to hot vintage. The season was marred by wildfires and potential smoke taint issues depending on the location of your vineyard sources in relation to the fires. Despite the fires the overall conditions brought phenomenal growing conditions, with some of the highest phenolic material I’ve seen in my career. The wines are plush, with enough structure to age and whites like Sauvignon Blanc are absolutely stunning. The fall unfortunately brought several freeze events during the third and fourth week of October that ended the season for the entire state.
Wine:
The 2020 La Gran Flor Blanc was harvested at night and whole cluster pressed. The wine was then fermented exclusively in 100% new French oak LUMEN barrels that are proprietary to our owner and winemaker. The combination of aromatic intensity, palate presence and staggering length make this the finest La Gran Flor Blanc produced to date.
Winemaker notes:
Explosive nose of crystallized lemon peel, apricot skin, citrus blossom and candied lychee. Swirling brings up hints of brioche and white tea with spun sugar and orange marmalade. The palate has great volume with dense stone fruits, candied citrus and a long structured finish. This wine is so wound up and expressive you should pour out a few ounces and let it sit for 30-45min before service.
