Generous and comforting, this suave blend goes deep in ripe red and black cherries, red plums and milk chocolate. Flinty, earthy accents, too. Made from 55% merlot, 39% cabernet sauvignon and 6% malbec. Drink or hold. James Suckling
2020 ALLEROMB – CUVEE B
Blend: 55% Merlot 39% Cabernet Sauvignon 6% Malbec
Aging: 21 months in 25% new French oak 500L’s.
AVA: Columbia Valley
Alcohol: 14.5%
Vintage:
In 2020 we saw normal budbreak and moderate early season growing conditions and overall was a warm to hot vintage. The season was marred by wildfires and potential smoke taint issues depending on the location of your vineyard sources in relation to the fires. Despite the fires the overall conditions brought phenomenal growing conditions, with some of the highest phenolic material I’ve seen in my career. The wines are plush, with enough structure to age and whites like Sauvignon Blanc are absolutely stunning. The fall unfortunately brought several freeze events during the third and fourth week of October that ended the season for the entire state.
Wine:
The 2020 Cuvée B is 55% Merlot with 39% Cabernet and the balance being Malbec. Fermented entirely in concrete for this vintage, the wine has a rounder, plusher feel giving the Merlot a beautiful foundation to start from. Aged in 25% new 500L French oak barrels to maintain fruit purity and minimal oak impact.
Winemaker notes:
Intense notes of raspberry puree, black cherry, saffron and dried mesquite. Swirling brings fig paste, black currants and plums with a background of hot iron and minerals. The palate is plush and decadent with ripe black fruits, silky sweet tannins and a sultry finish.
